Sudden Threat Review

Sudden Threat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Author A. J. Tata has got to have the hottest new action book out on terrorism by far! His newest book "Sudden Threat" sizzles like an over-heated barrel on a M-60 Machine Gun! There is enough action, suspense, intrigue, death, destruction and dangerous politics for four novels! This book is a winner and will be a definite hit for those who love to read books on the war on terrorism.
The book is well crafted. The plot is dynamite - totally an original way to tell a great story. The dialog is alive and moves the plot forward; but it is his portrayal of the people in the story that allows the reader to fully visualize them in their minds. This is a brilliantly crafted book that is destined to be a top seller! Buy it and read it - it is that good!
"The Military Writer's Society of America" gives this book its top award of FIVE STARS! This book is also on my short list of recommended novels to read!

In December 2001, CIA paramilitary operative Matt Garrett is mysteriously pulled from Pakistan as he closes in for the kill of Al Qaeda senior leadership and is reassigned to a low-profile mission in the Philippines. But as he sifts through the wreckage of a downed C-130 in the tangled jungle, he finds a dead U.S. Special Forces paratrooper who is not supposed to be there and is thrown into a contest of wits and resiliency in the uncharted rainforests of Mindanao.Manipulated by the secret plans of a powerful quartet of upper-echelon Rolling Stones groupies in Washington, DC, Garrett and U.S. Armed Forces establish their bona fides as true patriots on the cutting edge of freedom as they struggle for survival against the rising tide of Islamic extremism and the reemergence of the Empire of the Sun in the ever-expanding Global War on Terror. In the stunning prequel to his award-winning novel Rogue Threat, A.J. Tata creates an uncanny sense of presence on and off the battlefield in Sudden Threat, a novel rife with conspiracy, diplomatic double-talk, betrayal, loyalty, valor and honor.

Saving Cascadia: A Novel Review

Saving Cascadia: A Novel

In my opinion, in Saving Cascadia, John J. Nance has written another excellent thriller. As a professional geologist, I found his research on the Cascadia Subduction Zone to be authentic and believable. As a novelist who writes about some of the same subjects as John, both wildfire and earthquakes, I found Saving Cascadia to be a page turner - the kind you stay up with all night - fast-paced, suspenseful, brilliantly plotted, with realistically flawed characters thrown up against one challenge after another.

End Game (Dale Brown's Dreamland)

This is the first Dale Brown book I have read and it has made me want to read more. Based on this book he is a very interesting military writer and builds a good story that is not hard to follow. There is plenty of action and more than one storyline keeping you involved throughout the entire book. If you enjoy military fiction books I would recommend giving this author a shot I think you will be well pleased.

Sacred Stone (The Oregon Files) Review

Sacred Stone (The Oregon Files)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I should start by saying I am a big Clive Cussler fan and have read all his books. The only ones I have not enjoyed are the two Oregon Files ones.
There are so many characters I could not remember who was who without having to keep looking at the cast list at the front.
I reached the point of not caring anyway and just kept reading to get to the end. The whole thing reads like a Mission Impossible TV episode but nowhere near as good or exciting.
The scenes in the UK were very sloppy; there are no such things as pound notes and the beefeaters actually guard the Tower of London not Buckingham Palace.
I can only hope that it is Craig Dirgo that is the problem and that when the next Oregon Files book comes out written by Jack DuBrul (who I am a great fan of in his own right) that things will improve.

Area 7 Review

Area 7
Average Reviews:

I was thrilled to find Area 7 was available. I picked Ice Station up in Australia and was about a third of the way into it when I bought Reilly's other books, it was so good. Now I don't want to sound like I have no ability to suspend my disbelief, as Ice Station was a flash-bang ride which would realitically kill even a superhuman, but Area 7 was a little too much to be believed. The hero is inhumanly fast, strong and tough, with the endurance of the Terminator. I have no problem with this, I know it's not a non-fiction book. At the same time, a few of the feats Scarecrow does are SO impossible that they defied even my ability to suspend my own disbelief. That said, it was a fun read, just not what I'd hoped in the follow-up to the magnificent Ice Station. I understand Reilly is working on a third Scarecrow book. Can't imagine where he'll get sent next, or what he'll have to survive, but I'll get it regardless.

Transcons flight three seven departed from Los Angeles bound for JFK airport in New York. Sometime after they reached their cruising altitude, the first officer noticed the pressure dropping in the cargo hold below. Neither the captain nor the first officer was aware that a partially filled propane tank had been loaded into the cargo hold and was about to explode.Mayday, mayday Transcon flight three seven. Rapid decompression, explosion onboard. Descending to one-zero thousand. Clear all traffic below! These words echoed into the headset of the flight controllers at Lincoln Center and a desperate feeling came over them as they watched flight three seven descend on their radar screen.

Mantracker Review

Mantracker

Mike Ray must have gotten his storytelling ability from his Native American heritage. Based on a true story, he nevertheless told it in a fun and easy way to read for someone like myself who lived in the Vietnam era. I like books and movies that give me more insight into what it was really like in Southeast Asia during that time. Mantracker was not only a good history lesson about what was going on in the areas around Vietnam, but also an interesting story about a child who learned to track from his Native American grandfather and as his life evolved, he ended up using his skills in a very vital way in an undeclared war in Laos. I look forward to "the rest of the story."

From the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California to the dark, steaming jungles of Laos in Southeast Asia in the 1960s, Mantracker tells the story of Mike Wa-Heakley, whose outdoor exploits as a child lead to a life of adventure and intrigue, love and loss. Raised by his grandfather on California's North Fork Indian reservation, Mike learns the Indian ways and the history of the tribe. But it is his special gift of tracking animals and covering his trail that will play a pivotal role in his future. Mike's grandfather has been preparing him to enter a world wholly different from anything he's ever known: a fearsome world where men live without honor, women sin, and people use machines to travel and fly. In his early twenties, Mike lands a civil service job as a helicopter mechanic for Southern Airways, first in the United States, then in Laos. He is quickly swept into the murky world of military intelligence, where he earns his Indian name: Mantracker. In what turns out to be the most turbulent period of his existence, Mike risks his life—and his heart—for a chance to live on his own terms.

Dirk Pitt Revealed Review

Dirk Pitt Revealed

Written between Flood Tide and Atlantis Found, this book should be in any Cussler fan's library. It starts out with a clunky but entertaining enough story where Cussler wanders around a party in the hanger and reminices with Dirk's allies, girls, and villains before getting to the man himself. Then there's an interview where Cussler tells his whole life story, and it's a simply fascinating rags to riches tale. We continue with the best part of the book in my opinion, complete plot synopses and background info on every Cussler book up to Flood Tide, including The Sea Hunters. Finally, there's an encyclopedia of all the people, vehiclles, locations, and everything else in every book. It ends with the tantalizing first chapter of Atlantis Found. I had actually read that book first, but it would definitely make me want to buy it even if I wasn't a Cussler fan. Any Cussler fans out there, you must have this book!

The Battle of Mogadishu: Firsthand Accounts from the Men of Task Force Ranger Review

The Battle of Mogadishu: Firsthand Accounts from the Men of Task Force Ranger
Average Reviews:

This is a great book if you would like to get details of what its like to be in a battle. Yes some of the stories seem rushed or "not complete" but one must remember how much goes on during an actual fire, and how much information a person has to process. It is impossible for one man to remember every little detail that these guys want. The book did do a good job as to offer some different views and perspectives of the battle so that you can get a feeling for the battle as a whole. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the conflict in Somalia, or even just what its like to be a ranger when you put your training to use.

"No matter how skilled the writer of nonfiction, you are always getting the story secondhand. Here's a chance to go right to the source. . . . These men were there.”–MARK BOWDEN (from the Foreword)It started as a mission to capture a Somali warlord. It turned into a disastrous urban firefight and death-defying rescue operation that shocked the world and rattled a great nation. Now the 1993 battle for Mogadishu, Somalia–the incident that was the basis of the book and film Black Hawk Down–is remembered by the men who fought and survived it. Six of the best in our military recall their brutal experiences and brave contributions in these never-before-published, firstperson accounts."Operation Gothic Serpent,” by Matt Eversmann: As a "chalk” leader, Eversmann was part of the first group of Rangers to "fast rope” from the Black Hawk helicopters. It was his chalk that suffered the first casualty of the battle."Sua Sponte: Of Their Own Accord,” by Raleigh Cash: Responsible for controlling and directing fire support for the platoon, Cash entered the raging battle in the ground convoy sent to rescue his besieged brothers in arms."Through My Eyes,” by Mike Kurth: One of only two African Americans in the battle, Kurth confronted his buddies' deaths, realizing that "the only people whom I had let get anywhere near me since I was a child were gone.”"What Was Left Behind,” by John Belman: He roped into the biggest firefight of the battle and considers some of the mistakes that were made, such as using Black Hawk helicopters to provide sniper cover."Be Careful What You Wish For,” by Tim Wilkinson: He was one of the Air Force pararescuemen or PJs–the highly trained specialists for whom "That Others May Live” is no catchphrase but a credo–and sums up his incomprehensible courage as "just holding up my end of the deal on a bad day.”"On Friendship and Firefights,” by Dan Schilling: As a combat controller, he was one of the original planners for the deployment of SOF forces to Mogadishu in the spring of 1993. During the battle, he survived the initial assault and carnage of the vehicle convoys only to return to the city to rescue his two closest friends, becoming, literally, "Last Out.”With America's withdrawal from Somalia an oft-cited incitement to Osama bin Laden, it is imperative to revisit this seminal military mission and learn its lessons from the men who were there and, amazingly, are still here. From the Hardcover edition.

Bobby Autry is one of the best in the world at what he does. An elite combat chopper pilot, Autry has been tested under fire and always come out on top. But his new assigment might change all that. He's been tasked to lead a new unit of the elite Night Stalkers, a unit that can outfly the rest of the pilots in SOAR (Special Operations Air Regiment), outshoot the best gunners in the SEALs or Deltas, and operate as indepdently as the most lawless gureillas. The results: an experimental unit expected to fail: the X–Battalion. It won't be easy. The pilots he has at his command are the craziest, most dangerous, most unpredictable men in the military, men capable of thinking beyond rules and regulations, but men equally capable of breaking them. Autry will need every one of them if they are to survive their first mission. North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung had procurred a weapon of apocalyptic destruction, and all intelligence points to his willingness to use it within the next 48 hours. Strike Of The Black Mamba Review

Strike Of The Black Mamba
Average Reviews:

I want to describe this debut thriller novel with the cliche: Tomorrow's history ripped from today's headlines. This story refers to real events and issues that are important in today's news, such as shipments of dangerous nuclear materials around the world, weapons of mass destruction, nuclear terrorists, America's current situation in the world, etc.
Ken Palmer is an ex-FBI agent who has a good unterstanding of the psyche of a wanted criminal, Donald Morse, and the FBI recruits Ken Palmer to go and search for Morse in South Africa. Morse stole a military jet fighter airplane and uses it to steal a shipment of nuclear material. Morse has a special use for this material, but Palmer only discovers that towards the end. Morse also wants a new type of nuclear weapon hidden somewhere in South Africa and he goes after it in quite an interesting way.
The story contains a lot of suspense and action and follows Palmer in his search for Morse and his organisation and how Morse tries to end Palmer's life on various occations. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can recommend it to thriller lovers. An excellent debut novel!

The unthinkable has happened. An environmental organization warned the world against it. Still, nobody believed that it would turn out like this. But Donald Morse proves everyone wrong. Defying all security measures, he manages to steal a shipment of nuclear material from a cargo ship destined for Japan's nuclear power reactors. Could anything be worse than this scenario? Perhaps the fact that Donald Morse knows that South African scientists developed extremely dangerous nuclear weapons during the apartheid years, weapons that the world thought were not possible to construct. Donald has information where these deadly weapons are hidden - and he has plans to get them out. Ken Palmer is sent by the FBI to find Donald Morse and to arrest him. But Ken has to deal with traitors from within as well as onslaughts on his life. However, he discovers the real spine-chilling reason for Donald's need for the nuclear weapons and he realizes that Donald has to be stopped in any way possible.

Operation Pseudo Miranda: A Veteran of the CIA Drug Wars Tells All
Average Reviews:

This is an interesting story by a G. Gordon Liddy / Oliver North type individual. A man who is on the government payroll, breaks the law, and considers himself some sort of "American hero". He claims to be on the front lines of the drug war, yet he admits to taking air dropped deliveries of cocaine in the U.S Southwestern desert. He says he resents the fact that good Americans are risking their lives to keep idiotic Americans from snorting cocaine. After a party with Pablo Escobar him and his team members fly to New Orleans to party for Mardi Gras. Our hero Bucchi is very drunk in a hotel room and he takes out a bag of cocaine - a little souvenier from the party with Pablo Escobar. He is about to take a snort to find out why some people like cocaine when one of his team members walks in the room and says, "Don't do it. You'll become just like them." Bucchi is just like them. His strategy to combat the cocaine trade is to help the drug lords smuggle cocaine via Panama into the U.S. After the drug lords become rich with the help of the U.S. government, they will retire from the business and the cocaine trade will just disappear. It sounds ridiculous to the reader but Bucchi expresses very little doubt about what he is doing. After Iran Contra, CIA Director William Casey cancels Operation Pseedo Miranda, Bucchi enters the Air Force, talks about some of his drug smuggling adventures, and is judged to be mentally incompetent (insane) by the Air Force. That is certainly an affront to his ego and we get this book.

I love to read about two things: strong yet vunerable heroines and Native Americans. This books had both. I not only read a tender love story, but also learned more about the Apache that I did not know before. The heroine is half Apache and Sioux, while the hero is half Commache. It was an exciting and quick read. I just hope that Lindsay McKenna writes more novels with Native American characters. She writes about them well. P.S. I especially liked the main character Akiva. She really made the book. She grew the most in the book and even inspired me.
