(More customer reviews)I received a review copy of Robin Caroll's exciting debut novel. Warning: reading this book will keep you up late--compelled to discover the final, exciting conclusion to this wonderful book.

Robin Caroll's characters were strong, brassy and real. Roark reminded me of the U.S. Marshall in the movie The Fugitive. He liked to be in control of everything. His motto, "Don't let them see your weakness."

Brannon reminded me of the female character in G.I. Jane. She's a rough and tough girl you don't want to mess with when she's working. Here's a peak at how Brannon snaps at Roark, " Let me tell you something, Mr. Marshall. I don't care how big and important you think you are--you will not make it out of these mountains without our guidance. So you can stop with the arrogance and know-it-all, take-charge attitude. We must work together to survive."

I felt like I was in the middle of an action adventure movie with fighting, shooting, chase scenes, fires, helicopters and police drama. This is an intriguing story filled with suspense, hope, forgiveness and justice. I enjoyed the comradery among the characters and how they chased down the bad guys. But, I especially enjoyed how this author wove a believable spiritual thread into the story; keeping the main thing the main thing even in the middle of war - I like that.

There's a race to set little girls free from brothels in the USA, before they're shipped to another location. I think Robin handled the topic of sex-trafficking with grace. I'm sure conditions in brothels are worse than described. The author notes she hadn't realized how serious this problem was before doing research. It's horrific.

I enjoyed every second of this book. Can't wait to read the sequel called Fear No Evil. Way to go, Robin Caroll, on writing such a great and exciting debut novel.

Air Force Pararescue Major Bruce "Striker" Stanton was also one of the best. For over twelve years he had been pulling pilots and Special Forces soldiers from behind enemy lines. Bruce and Grace often wrote to each other, since they were posted far apart. When Gracie went down, Bruce went to work!
***** Dee Henderson has earned a special place on my book shelf! Her stories honor the nation's true heroes. (Firefighters, military, law enforcement, and medical personal are some examples.)
Once again the author plunges her characters into danger to show how love and faith can get people through even the worst of times. Gracie and Bruce seemed almost alive to me. I hated to see the novel end. I can only hope Dee Henderson's next novel is released quickly. She cannot seem to write quickly enough for me! Highly recommended! *****

Dangerous Prey (Thorndike Core) Review

Kelly was a Marine helicopter pilot flying in Afghanistan. She was shot down and suffers post traumatic stress issues. She had to leave the marines due to some nerve damage in her hand. She then flew helicopters with water tanks fighting fires in Arizona. During a fire fight the winds caused her helicopter to crash. The crash caused permanent leg damage and severe depression because the two passengers with her died. Kelly has no will to live. Her mother asks Sky to spend time with Kelly, hoping he will bring her out of her depression. Sky was her best friend in childhood. Sky rehabilitates wounded raptors (owls, hawks and falcons) and then sets them free. Kelly loves seeing the raptors and starts helping Sky work with them. Being with Sky and the raptors gives her the will to live, and she regains her health. Meanwhile Sky has an enemy Billy Jo who plans to kill Sky. Billy Jo is in jail because he previously killed Sky's parents, but he will be released within the year. Sky is reluctant to have Kelly around because he fears Billy Jo will hurt Kelly or anyone else close to him.
REVIEWER'S OPINION:
The best part of the book was learning about the raptors. The rest of the story did not work for me. Through much of the story Sky and Kelly deny their attraction to each other. Sky won't tell Kelly about the Billy Jo threat, so she believes he doesn't like her or want her around. These conflicts are due to vague communication and inaccurate assumptions which are not a favorite for me and are overused in romance novels. There was also too much pondering and too many repetitive thoughts by Sky and Kelly about wanting to be with each other and why they couldn't. Some of the dialogue felt dated - 80's style writing. I also didn't care for the characters doing some stupid things for the sake of the plot which are described in Spoilers below.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
As Sky was preparing for Billy Jo's release from jail, he installed security equipment around his home. Morgan (Kelly's father) said that as soon as Billy Jo was released he would arrange for security personnel to guard Sky's home. But this never happened. When Billy Jo got out of jail Morgan never provided any security guards. This left Sky unprotected, and Billy Jo easily attacked him. I don't understand why Sky stayed there alone. This was doing something stupid for the sake of the plot.
One thing I did like was how Kelly escaped when she was kidnapped. But I did not like the carelessness of Kelly and Sky after Kelly escaped. They let their guard down. The enemy was still out there. They should have continued being on alert, but they didn't. Instead, the kidnapper walked in on them with a gun, again.
Another carelessness bothered me. Earlier in the story, Sky was in hiding so Billy Jo couldn't find him. Kelly wanted to talk to community groups about the work he was doing with raptors. Sky didn't want her to, but Kelly insisted, so Sky agreed as long as she kept his name a secret. What does she do? At her very first talk, she tells them Sky's name. Billy Jo's mother is in the audience. Of course, she tells her son where Sky is. Kelly apologizes to Sky saying it accidentally slipped out.

Destiny's Woman Review

(More customer reviews)I love to read about two things: strong yet vunerable heroines and Native Americans. This books had both. I not only read a tender love story, but also learned more about the Apache that I did not know before. The heroine is half Apache and Sioux, while the hero is half Commache. It was an exciting and quick read. I just hope that Lindsay McKenna writes more novels with Native American characters. She writes about them well. P.S. I especially liked the main character Akiva. She really made the book. She grew the most in the book and even inspired me.

The lead couple is a courageous admirable duo while the support cast especially the rescue workers are also brave individuals. However, the star of the tale is the 1988 fire that engulfed Yellowstone National Park threatening the entire wooded treasure. Linda Jacobs, researching the devastation of seventeen years ago, provides a deep passionate thriller in which the romance and the family drama, though well written and entertaining in their own right, take a back seat to a fiery "villain". Ms. Jacobs pays homage to those intrepid firefighters and other responders who risked their lives to battle a raging conflagration
