He's a nationalized citizen educated at a prestigious university, trained by a high-tech corporation, and all the while he's been biding his time, building his army, waiting to strike. When he sets his diabolical plans in motion, there's only one man and one organization that can stop him.

This truly excellent book presents previously unpublished information on the post WW2 British rotorcraft industry. Many questions regarding the reasons for the failure of various projects are answered using official records, first person accounts and other reliable sources.
There are a few minor technical errors here and there but the type of reader this book will attract will easily be able to immediately identify and correct them while reading the material.

This study explains how Westland dominated British helicopter production and why government funding and support failed to generate competitive "all-British" alternatives. In doing so, the book evaluates broader historiographic assumptions about the purported "failure" of british aircraft procurement during the early post-war period and considers the scope and limitations of licensed production as a government-mandated procurement strategy.

I found this book a compelling read. It is more a tale of a journey of a man in modern war than a story of the Gulf War. The Mig-29 Fulcrum provides an excellent symbol of a modern-day Trojan Horse, and the medium for which it is told is compelling, detailed, and intriguing. This novel is a real page-turner...

I served with the 101st ABN in Vietnam 67-68. I had gone through SF Medical training, but had an unpleasant discussion with a LTC in training group and 14 days later I was a medic with the 101st. I went to Division HQ and was the Sr. Medic for, from the General to an 80 year old lady burned badly from Napalm. I became friends with SGT MG Dunaway. After 6 mon in country, I asked him to transfer me to a more operational unit, being special forces trained medic, I was wasting the governments money and wanted to be assigned somewhere, I left that to him.A week later I was assigned to Di An to attend a MACV school, I had no Idea doing what. I left Phu Bei and returned to Bien Hoa to sign out of the Division. The first thing they said was "the Red Cross wanted to see me. The Red Cross told me that my Dad died and I was leaving tomorrow on a freedom flight. My brother was in country at the same time, an xo of a rifle company 5/7 1st Cav. My dad was a retired Col US Air Force. We had a full military funeral which was nice. I found out my mother had become a alcoholic during the time her two boys were sent to Vietnam, I had no Idea she was that sick, she had been in rehab and this put her over the edge again. My brother had 11 months in country and was reassigned to Denver, Colorado, I was put on compassionate reassignement and stayed at a near by base and took care of her. I always woundered what I was going to do if I did go back. I now know I was going to be assigned to a MACV MAT team as the medical component for a team. This book explained what I was missing. Only difference would have been I would have served May through November in 68. I understand they were pretty busy at that time. Great read, I, going to try and read about the MAT teams from the Medics point of view.

This book is very interesting. It concerns the day to day activities of a helicopter crew chief. His insights into military life under harsh and harrowing conditions provide a civilian a window into the gut feelings and fears that stalk a youth faced with death on a daily basis. No one knows how one will "hold up" in the line of fire, but this tribute leaves no doubt how Jim "Mac" MacLaughlin handle it...with courage, dignity and honor.

The Tragedy of Vietnam, Again Review

THIS IS A REALLY GREAT BOOK. EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK TO SEE WHAT REALLY GOINGS ON FROM THE MEDICS STAND POINT.

Click Here to see more reviews about: The Tragedy of Vietnam, Again

Retold at a time when history eerily repeats itself, in The Tragedy of Vietnam, Again, Christopher Noble shares a pitch-perfect and prophetic memoir of his experience in Vietnam. As sincere as it is alarming, in a rush of intense action, the author provides a bold narrative in which to stake a claim that Americans must begin to question their president and the media to set the record straight once and for all. Critical until the bitter end, his is a dark and at times comic recollection of his twelve months serving in Vietnam as a lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps. With the certain air of bitter irony, Noble sees the cruel landscape repainted from the Far East to the canvas of the Middle East and is bold in his conclusion to compare the Vietnam War with the present day War in Iraq. He poignantly demonstrates how in both instances naïve and patriotic American youth head off to war for a government who misled the country and the American press who fuels half-truths and lies.

This is an interesting book. I can see an Oliver Stone adaptation applied to the story line. It would make a great movie.

Lieutenant Winston Clark was a helicopter pilot. He is just what he wanted to be and where he wanted to be. When he arrived in Vietnam, he was fresh from the hills of Old Catawba and fully prepared to "bear any burden," as the handsome young president had said. But was he prepared for what awaited him at Les Trungs rubber plantation? Was he prepared for his encounter with the mysterious Frenchman, "Voltaire Six"? Was he prepared for the girl named Genevieve, the girl with the honey-colored hair? And was he prepared for the "68th Buddha" and the climactic and explosive battles of the Tet offensive?Prepared or not, the Top Tigers and the Viet Cong were on a violent collision course and this tour of duty would haunt Lieutenant Clark forever. Voltaire Six is the story of fighting men and women on both sides of the ideological lines rushing down a stormy wind-tunnel of passion, history, and destiny. John Cooke writes with a marvelous sense of character, time, and place. You are there-and you will not forget it.

If you buy this book, you better take a trip to the mountains, find a quiet den or just hunker down in the back yard because once you start, there is no putting this book down. The author captures every feeling, every smell, all of it. Even someone like me who was never in a war, finds himself wrapped up in it's outcome. The book had all of it. The ending is superb and makes the reader understand how cruel we were to our soldiers of this war who gave all in a cause that they were sworn to protect. God bless the Dustoff Medics, they really were the grandfathers of todays "Life Flight Helicopter"crews, many of these same pilots have given their lives after the war flying medical missions. One of them, Dennis Palcic, went down in bad weather with his entire crew, on "Air Heart One, while attempting to save the life of a critically ill patient right here in Walton County, Florida.

H.D. Guthre, a former Dustoff medic, writes a heartfelt and soul wrenching memoir of a Dustoff Medic's experiences in this captivating book. Written much like a novel, the flow of the dialog and his action helps to visually implant the scenes in the consciousness of the reader. His words make the story vivid and alive, because the author uses a unique writing technique and style that uses the third person to tell his personal story. He even changes his own character's name in the book to help him cope emotionally and spiritually with the rememberances and having to deal with the past. It works well. It is only at the end of the book when you read what happens to each person in his book , that one actually puts it altogether and realizes that the author is SSG David Scanlon, from the story. He does not try to hide it as he goes on to write about the author where you see that what happened to scanlon, is what happened to Guthre. Not many professional writers could have pulled this one off, but Guthre's use of this writing method only makes for a much better telling of the story. Guthre is more able to expose and express his emotions and relate to the events as an observer. This affords the reader a closer and uncensored emotional look at what happened in "The Disneyland of Death" as he calls it.

Greenhorns and Killer Mountains Review

Greenhorns and Killer Mountains
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Jim Conover's middle name could be Adventure. The Pekin man is a retired cop, a partner in a private detective agency, and a treasure hunter. In other words, adventure does not have to bite Conover on the butt for him to recognize it. Conover proves convincingly he knows adventure intimately in the pages of his second book, a freshman fiction effort, Greenhorns and Killer Mountains. The book, set in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, is a page-turner worthy of the time it takes to cover its 429 pages. It's a fun, modern American Western romp. Conover's strength in this volume is weaving adventure with character development. The characters come to life quickly and are developed in such a way that the reader can identify with them. The adventure at times seems a bit overblown, but, once into the book, you won't care. The pace is so fast there is hardly time to consider whether the scenario before you is completely feasible. This book is about total escapism within characters that everyday men and women can identify with. The folks in this book are what they seem, and, at the same time, more complex than they appear early on as the book progresses.

Tribute: The heart and soul of our protectors.
Average Reviews:

Reviewed by Richard R. Blake for Reader Views (1/08)
"Tribute: The Heart and Soul of Our Protectors" is the first in a series of "Tribute" books envisioned by author Deborah C. McCabe. It is her plan to collaborate with Veterans, their families, friends, and supporters in compiling, editing, and publishing an annual Veteran's Day volume of tributes to honor the bravery and memories of American veterans from World War II, the Korean, Vietnam, and Iraq Wars.
The current edition is made up of poems, letters, and narratives written by veterans, their families, friends, and comrades that tell of insurmountable bravery, of honoring others. There are tributes from family members offering praise and admiration for their loved ones' patriotism, sacrifice and courage. Medals of Honor, commendations, and battle ribbons, are a part of the tribute given these brave young men.

Veterans have testified of healing that has come though the sharing of these stories of combat, rescue, and of the bonding experiences they found while in the line of fire in the throes of battle as brothers risked their own lives to aid a wounded buddy. The pain and pathos of separation from families and the joy of reunion are all a part of the cycle of war revealed in these heart-touching stories.

A complete index of heroes and contributors includes an amalgam of PFCs, Colonels, Captains, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Airmen, Chaplains, and a host of others. The photos that accompany many of the stories give expression to the promise of youth, the fear and demons of battle fatigue, as well as the commitment to courage and the determination to pursue victory.

"Tribute: The Heart and Soul of Our Protectors" is a book that will be read and reread by veterans throughout America. It is a strong affirmation and appreciation from patriotic Americans standing for the freedom these men have fought to protect. It is a book that should be on reading lists in every American history class and it should be available in public libraries throughout our country. This is an important and timely book. Bravo to Deborah C. McCabe and those veterans who have come forward to share their stories.

While assisting a military history author in locating WWII-PTO veterans for a book project, vets' information forms contained more than battles fought and medals earned. There were personal stories of respect, gratitude, brotherhood, sacrifice, friendships, and commitment.

Most books and articles focus on combat strategies, tactics, and outcome. Little attention is given to events and people that have stayed in the hearts and minds of those who endured the worst of human experiences—war.

TRIBUTE is an avenue for our men and women of the armed forces, past and present, to tell their stories honoring others. It also allows friends and family to express their praise and admiration for those so dear to them.

Vets have stated that this opportunity to share these narratives has provided a healing process. It is hoped that it will also reassure those who are presently serving in combat, and those who have finished their tours, that they are not alone in their experiences and feelings.

TRIBUTE is a unique book of war in which honor is paid to others.
