(More customer reviews)This book was an average adventure book. Of course adventures are exciting, so it was a pretty good read that kept my attention. It wasn't boring to read, but it wasn't the most interesting or exciting story in the world the pictures the author painted in my mind were very detailed and gave a good view of what was going on.
The author did a good job of describing the events and making it feel as if you were there experiencing the same adventure as the characters in the story. The only trouble is that the way it was written made it very, very predictable. (I'm a little bias for this story because not only does it involve my favorite sport, snowboarding, but it also involves my favorite place in the world, Whistler, B.C.)
Not only does it hold attention, but also it is a valuable warning and caution sign to snowboarders and skiers about riding backcountry. It is a valuable lesson and is told in an interesting way. After reading this story, the reader will have more knowledge about backcountry and its dangers and they will know that it's nothing to take casually.
This book is a good read for anyone who skis or snowboards. If someone is looking for an easy read that will keep you amused, this is a great book for them. But, if someone is looking for a more difficult and sophisticated read, I would suggest finding a different book. In conclusion, I enjoyed the story as well as the lessons provided in the book.

No amount of schooling or disinformation provided by my father and the recruit center prepared me for a career in the Canadian Armed Forces. As an immature teenager, I was thrust into a place that was so foreign to me that it was at times downright scary.
I spent 20 years in a job I was neither interested in nor suited for but it became a place for me to learn some valuable life lessons. From time to time there is bad press about the military and although it has some visible warts the dedication of its members to serve Canada has always been strong. This book was written to give the reader a glimpse inside a job, which has nothing in the civilian world that can compare it to.
Many of the stories are funny while others harrowing for those involved. But all of them are genuine and reflect my take on events. My career was nothing extra ordinary, although there are some moments that brought me to the brink of greatness. I suspect there are were some careers that were much more interesting than mine and many more that were duller. But being a writer gives me an advantage over the others; I can give you a bird's eye view in 352 pages.
I want to thank the many member of the military that I served along side with. The people I worked with are truly what made it fun.

When I was 18, I looked like I was 13. I was socially immature, a late bloomer in body and mind and very much adamant that the time had come to move out of my parents home in Ontario Canada. So, I couldn't really fault the people who knew me well and believed that within a short period of time I would be sent home from military boot camp. Ah yes-boot camp! Joining the army had actually been my dad's idea. I never would have thought of it myself.When I retired at the age of 38 I couldn't help but reflect on the twenty years I had spent in the employment of the Canadian Government and humorously wondered "What the hell was that about?"
