The second time around after six months, this book keeps revealing more literary gems than I ever thought possible. The artistry and effectiveness of the descriptions is what moved me to give it another 5 star rating. Imagine a great wine bottle that you drink in a few days, and then six months later one that you can drink again in little educated sips...over an entire week of real pleasure. If you like colorful language and images that are spot on, you will thrill with this novel, not just once but probably two or three times again. I'll do another review on my third reading, dwelling on the characters's psychology...or who knows what will strike my fancy at that time. But for you first-time readers, the story is what will keep you awake all night, those Medevac pilots in their barracks set in Montagnard territory of Vietnam. Unforgettable...and utterly beautiful.

It is a war story, but so much more.
