I used to look forward to reading Russ Hulet's columns in the local newspapers. When I heard that he had compiled a number of them that he had written for "General Aviation News," I immediately bought a copy.
Someone once said that everyone has a unique story to tell. A good journalist, which Russ Hulet is, manages to extract those stories and share them with the rest of us. What I like about "Out of the Blue" is that it is filled with unique and short stories each of which can be read in a few minutes. Some might say that this is the perfect bathroom or bedside book for that reason. But, aside from its convenience, it is filled with interesting tales as well as with fascinating characters. Many of the pieces could be embellished into larger narratives, but since they are not, I was often left with a sense of wanting to know more.
After reading this wonderful collection of articles, I have a much better understanding of why aviation is such an addictive pastime for some people.
